YOUTH-LEAD in ACTION

About Youth-LEAD
Launched in early 2024, the Youth-LEAD Agricultural Ambassadors program is a youth-led initiative hosted by Golden Organic Farms in partnership with the StAR Lab. It aims to empower young leaders from Edgecombe County, NC, by offering opportunities in sustainable agriculture, leadership development, and community service.
Our Vision

Youth-LEAD (Learning and Empowering through Agriculture to Promote Development) was created to nurture the next generation of agricultural leaders. Through this program, youth are selected to contribute to Golden Organic Farms’ efforts in developing sustainable food systems, while also acting as ambassadors for youth service in their communities. This collaborative partnership between youth and adults aims to equip young people with the skills needed for effective leadership and community adaptability, ensuring they play a vital role in shaping the future of agriculture in Edgecombe County.
Our Approach

Youth-LEAD is driven by the belief that youth should lead the way in addressing the challenges faced by their communities. Our program emphasizes:
-
Youth Advocacy and Activism: Youth are empowered to take on roles as advocates, influencing city council meetings, press releases, funding proposals, and research that address community-wide issues like food insecurity.
-
Youth-Led Initiatives: Our board is shaped by the voices of the youth themselves, ensuring that the programs and services we offer are truly "by youth, for youth." Their contributions are central to the success of our initiatives.
-
Task Force Roles: Youth are organized into task forces, each focusing on specific goals aligned with our mission. These groups collaborate on projects and events, fostering teamwork and a shared sense of purpose.
